NESA Releases Official 2026 PBA Examination Centers for Private Candidates in Rwanda

The National Examination and School Inspection Authority, commonly known as NESA, has officially released the long-awaited list of Project-Based Assessment (PBA) practical examination centers for private candidates sitting for the 2025/2026 national examinations in Rwanda.

NESA Releases Official 2026 PBA Examination Centers for Private Candidates in Rwanda

This announcement comes at a critical time as the national PBA assessment period is already underway, running from May 1 to June 19, 2026. Thousands of private candidates across Rwanda are now expected to report to their assigned practical examination centers to continue their assessments without delay.

For many students preparing for Advanced Level, TVET, and TTC examinations, the release of these center allocations marks an important milestone in the national examination process.

NESA Confirms Official PBA Center Allocation for Private Candidates

According to information released by NESA, all registered private candidates have now been assigned to approved hosting schools and practical examination centers across the country.

The PBA system was introduced as part of Rwanda’s competency-based education reforms aimed at strengthening practical skills, scientific research abilities, innovation, and problem-solving among learners.

Unlike traditional examinations that rely heavily on written tests, Project-Based Assessments require candidates to conduct practical work, research activities, laboratory experiments, and final presentations under the supervision of designated examination centers.

This year’s exercise includes candidates from:

ü  Advanced Level (S6)

ü  TVET Level 5

ü  Teacher Training Colleges (TTC)

The assessments are being conducted within a seven-week project cycle hosted in selected schools nationwide.

Private candidates can now access the official examination center allocation list through the online document shared by NESA.

Candidates are encouraged to verify their assigned centers immediately to avoid missing important practical sessions and presentation dates.

Why NESA Did Not Publish a Full PDF Name List

To protect candidate privacy and ensure data security, NESA clarified that it would not publicly release a single downloadable PDF containing all candidate names and center allocations.

Instead, candidates are advised to use the approved communication channels provided by the authority.

This approach aligns with Rwanda’s growing focus on digital privacy, responsible data handling, and secure examination management systems.

How to Find Your Assigned PBA Examination Center

NESA has provided several official methods for candidates to confirm their examination center allocations.

1. Online Verification Portal

Candidates can use the official online allocation document to check their assigned hosting center.

2. SMS Notifications

NESA has already sent automated SMS alerts to phone numbers used during registration in February and March 2026.

Candidates are advised to carefully check their messages for center allocation details and reporting instructions.

3. District Education Offices

For candidates experiencing technical difficulties accessing the online system, assistance is available through District Directors of Education (DDE) offices across Rwanda.

Local education offices have received the official lists and can help candidates verify their assigned practical examination centers.

Number of Private Candidates Participating in 2026 PBA

The 2025/2026 examination cycle has recorded a significant number of private candidates participating in the competency-based Project-Based Assessment system.

Candidate Statistics

v  Advanced Level (S6): 1,464 candidates

ü  TVET Level 5: 1,424 candidates

v  TTC Candidates: 16 candidates

Education analysts say the growing participation demonstrates increasing trust in Rwanda’s flexible education and certification pathways for learners outside the regular school system.

Important PBA Presentation Dates for Science Candidates

Private candidates have been integrated into hosting schools where they will complete projects, practical activities, and scientific presentations.

Candidates are strongly advised to respect all timelines provided by NESA.

Official Practical Presentation Schedule

Chemistry Final Presentations

June 1 – June 5, 2026

Biology Final Presentations

June 8 – June 12, 2026

Physics Final Presentations

June 15 – June 19, 2026

Missing scheduled presentation dates could negatively affect candidate assessment results, making punctual attendance extremely important.

Mandatory Requirements for Reporting to Examination Centers

NESA has also outlined several mandatory items that every private candidate must present upon arrival at their designated center.

Required Documents and Materials

Candidates must carry:

ü  An original National ID or valid passport

ü  A printed registration form from the SDMS portal

ü  Appropriate laboratory attire where applicable

ü  Basic stationery materials for practical work

Candidates who fail to provide identification or registration documents may face delays or restrictions during the assessment process.

Important Notice to Hosting Schools and Center Administrators

NESA has issued a strict directive prohibiting hosting schools from charging additional fees to private candidates.

According to the guidelines, schools are not allowed to request:

ü  Laboratory fees

ü  Internet access charges

ü  Practical usage fees

ü  Additional administrative payments

The authority emphasized that all hosting centers are required to provide necessary materials, laboratory access, and internet support as part of the official national examination framework.

This directive aims to ensure equal access and fairness for all candidates regardless of financial background.

Rwanda’s Shift Toward Competency-Based Assessments

The Project-Based Assessment system reflects Rwanda’s broader education transformation strategy focused on practical learning and employable skills.

Under the competency-based curriculum, students are expected not only to memorize theoretical concepts but also to demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge in real-world situations.

Education experts believe the PBA model helps learners develop:

ü  Critical thinking skills

ü  Scientific investigation abilities

ü  Research competence

ü  Communication and presentation skills

ü  Teamwork and innovation

For TVET candidates especially, practical assessments are considered essential in preparing graduates for Rwanda’s rapidly growing labor market.

What Candidates Should Do Immediately

Private candidates who have not yet reported to their assigned centers are encouraged to act quickly.

Recommended Next Steps

  1. Verify your assigned examination center
  2. Contact the hosting school if necessary
  3. Prepare all required documents
  4. Review your presentation schedule carefully
  5. Arrive early for practical sessions

Candidates are also advised to maintain regular communication with their hosting centers for updates regarding laboratory sessions, supervision schedules, and presentation arrangements.

The release of the official 2026 PBA examination center allocations by National Examination and School Inspection Authority marks a major step in Rwanda’s ongoing national examination process.

With thousands of private candidates participating in this year’s assessments, the Project-Based Assessment system continues to shape a more practical, skills-oriented education framework across the country.

Candidates are encouraged to remain organized, follow all official instructions, and report to their assigned centers on time to ensure smooth participation in the 2025/2026 national examinations.
